Off Truth Universal’s debut album, Self Determination, on Dragon’s Breath Records. The release date is listed as a few days ago (April 8th) so go grab it. Apparently, Truth is also releasing an album in conjunction with Paris’ Guerilla Funk Recordings this year as well. Be on the lookout here for info on that soon.

Born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Truth immigrated to the U.S. in 1977 with his parents at the age of 4. Growing up in the 7th Ward New Orleans, LA, Truth learned early lessons of respect, discipline, and perseverance from his working-class Caribbean upbringing.

He was exposed to large amounts of Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Jazz, and R&B at a very early age, and as the years passed, he and all of his friends became heavily involved in hip hop. At age 9, his family moved to New Orleans East 9th Ward, and Truth began to immerse himself in the multiple roles of bboy, dj, producer, and emcee. Over time he would become an energetic showman, with veteran stage presence and crowd control, and would amass many live shows across the U.S. with seasoned performers from all genres of music.
