eLZhi – “Motown 25″ w/ Royce Da 5’9″
July 31, 2008, 3:12 pm

(July 30, 2008- Brooklyn, NY) – eLZhi, esteemed member of Slum Village, will be releasing his solo debut, The Preface, on August 12, 2008 through Fat Beats Records. The 16-track album, produced almost entirely by rising star Black Milk, features guest appearances by a who’s who of the Detroit hip-hop scene. Royce Da 5’9″, T3 (Slum Village), Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, and more add to what many have predicted will be one of the most noteworthy hip-hop releases of 2008.

With The Preface, eLZhi displays the unpredictable flows and rhyme schemes he is known for and also touches on an impressive variety of concepts and subject matter. He demands perfection in his tracks and the attention to detail shows in the expert production of Black Milk. Having worked with countless hip-hop talents like Phat Kat, Frank-N-Dank, Lloyd Banks, Canibus, Pharoahe Monch, T3, and J Dilla, Black Milk tidies up the tracks with his signature air-tight beats and samples.

In the late-nineties, eLZhi made a name for himself by moving his way up through the ranks of Detroit’s underground scene and teaming up with Slum Village for his first big taste of success. He has since been making the rounds, working with local Detroit luminaries such as J Dilla, Waajeed of Platinum Pied Pipers, and Dwele, in addition to a well-received solo tour of Europe during his early years in the game. Hip-hop enthusiasts across the globe consider eLZhi to be one of the most skilled emcees in the entire scene, and bloggers and critics have been trumpeting this sentiment since the release of the last Slum Village album in 2005. With the release of The Preface, eLZhi looks to cement his name amongst the greatest emcees in the game.

Jack Flash Is… Dead? – Flashbacks (album sampler)

Now available for free download is the album sampler for the debut release “Flashbacks” from Jack Flash Is… Dead?. A true student of the game and lover of all musical genres, Jack Flash Is… Dead? has managed to cut, paste and combine the attributes of decorative artists ranging from Sunspot Jonz (Living Legends) to Herbie Hancock. “Flashbacks,” his debut album, was done in only 3 months, learning as he went, bringing abstract sounds to his production out of his apartment, no pro studio, in illustrious Hollywood, CA. Though he hails from the movie star capitol of the western world, he managed to stay humble in what has been sky rocketing success! And with the highly anticipated “The Ego Has Landed” due early 2009, Jack Flash Is… Dead? is definitely an artist to watch for, bringing the “fun” back to hip hop.

Today is the 13th anniversary of the passing of my mother so I wanted to leak a track I recorded last year dedicated to the memory of her and my father (who passed on in September ’98.) It may be a little personal for a blog blast but hey, I hold nothing back. I’ll get back to talking that shit next week.

Great song, Spec, and that picture is perfect. RIP to your parents.

DJ Revolution – “The DJ” w/ KRS-One + “Funky Piano” w/ Bishop Lamont, Crooked I, Stylistic Jones

DJ REVOLUTION “KING OF THE DECKS” ALBUM IN STORES SEPTEMBER 16th ON DUCK DOWN RECORDS

FEATURING TRACKS FROM KRS-ONE, BISHOP LAMONT, CROOKED I, JOELL ORTIZ, SEAN PRICE, DJ QBERT, BOOT CAMP CLIK, JAZZY JEFF, EVIDENCE, GUILTY SIMPSON, ROYCE DA 5’9, SPECIAL TEAMZ, DEFARI, TERMANOLOGY, TASH, RAKAA IRISCIENCE, BUMPY KNUCKLES, BLAQ POET, STRONG ARM STEADY, PLANET ASIA , DJ PREMIER

DJ Revolution said it best in a recent interview, “the connection between the DJ and the emcee has been severed. “King of The Decks” is my attempt at reconnecting it.” DJ Revolution did just that with his new album, as he brought together some of the most talented names in Hip Hop today, who not only produce quality music, but also respect the craft of the DJ Culture.

DJ Revolution has spent 15 years perfecting that craft on the SP 1200. He’s currently behind the wheels of the longest running Hip Hop show in the history of commercial radio, “THE WORLD FAMOUS WAKE UP SHOW alongside Sway & King Tech.

Aside from his weekly duties on the show based out of LA on Power 106, and syndicated Worldwide, he has lent his now infamous scratch techniques to countless records and his production skills to many established artists. REV has also taken his skillz to the far corners as the globe and ripped clubs in locations such as Japan , Europe, Australia and New Zealand . He has also shared the stage DJ’ing for many artists including legends like Rakim all the way to current superstars such as Kanye West. Revolution has released two of his own Full length LP’s (“In 12′s we trust/R2K”) and one with his partners Sway & Tech (“This or That”).

As DJ Revolution readies “KING OF THE DECKS,” in stores on September 16th, he divulged further on the issues of the lack of communication between the MC and THE DJ stating that it “is one of the most obvious reasons Hip Hop has devolved so drastically over the years. Since MC’s in general decided to toss aside the DJ as an asset and integral part of their success from production to performance, the music has suffered tremendously. My goal is to re-introduce to the world what a DJ is. He or She is not just a celebrity, or someone who plays records, or makes funny sounds with turntables. He or she is all of that and more. I recruited some of the most legendary and also most talented up and coming artists to help me express all of this within the context of the music.

The title of the album is by no means a way of saying I’m the best on the turntables. “King of the Decks” is obviously just a play on words related to a deck of cards. However, it is also a statement that needs to be remembered. The DJ is King.”

Double O Of Kidz In The Hall Assaulted By Club Security, Naledge Arrested

All bad.

“Double O of Kidz In The Hall badly assaulted by security after performance; Management issues statement”

Double O from the hip hop group Kidz In The Hall was assaulted by several bouncers early Saturday morning, July 26, while inside a nightclub in Tempe, AZ following a Kidz In The Hall performance. Group member and friend Naledge, who did not witness the assault on Double O, was arrested outside of the club. Naledge’s attempt to get medical assistance for Double O was misconstrued as a hinderence to the investigation. Reports that no injuries were sustained are false as Double O was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries from the excessive force used by club security. On Sunday morning Double O underwent surgery for one of his injuries. He is still in the hospital, but in stable condition.

In the last 2 years, Kidz In The Hall has traveled to over 10 countries, have done 200+ shows and never before been involved in any altercation, big or small, with club or concert security, or police officers.
